Parents are getting some time off work and kids are out of school and it's the perfect time to spend quality time with your loved ones. Here's a list of some of our favorite things to do around the holidays.

Bake a Christmas recipe

One of our kid's favorite recipes to help with is Christmas candy. It's so simple that they can do it themselves. Dump all the ingredients into a crockpot and leave it for a few hours, then stir it up and scoop it on to wax paper to cool.

Go see Christmas lights

We love to drive around our community looking for the best Christmas lights. It's so much fun seeing how everyone decorates and some people really go all out with their lights synced to music.

Jam out to Christmas music

This is something we like to do while looking at lights or anytime we get in the car. Luckily there is no shortage of holiday music on the radio this time of year, so we hop from station to station until we hear one of our favorites.

Drink hot cocoa

Hot cocoa always seems to put us in the holiday sprit. Sometimes we make our own from scratch and when we're short on time we will buy the hot chocolate k-cups, but work great. You can drop in a candy cane to feel extra Christmas-y!

Have a family game night

Our kid's love to play games and there is something special about playing them in front of a warm fire in the light from our Christmas tree. Some board games even offer Christmas versions so you can play Monopoly as your favorite reindeer.

Build a fort and watch Christmas movies

As a kid I LOVED to build blanket forts and now I get to share those memories with my kids. Grab some blankets and chairs and construct your ultimate cozy Christmas den! Pair this with the treats we listed earlier and turn on your favorite holiday movie and it's sure to be a great time.

Take fun family photos

Every year we get dressed up in our Christmas pajamas, set up our tripod and take some holiday photos. Kid's don't always cooperate, so it ends up being a wrestling and tickling fight and to be honest we love how those photos turn out even more!

Perform a random act of kindness

This time of year is joyful and happy for most of us, but it can be a sad time for some, especially if they are not able to see their family. Make it a point to smile at someone, pay them a compliment or pay for their food in the drive through. A little goes a long way in this world and it doesn't cost anything to be kind.

Make a list of some of your biggest blessings

One of the most important things you can do as you reflect on 2021 is to look at how far we've come throughout the year and write a few down. A lot of us have had a tough year, but it helps to look back and see the things that brought you to where you are today and be thankful for the experience and the things you have learned.

AND remember that Jesus is the reason for the season! So be sure to talk about that in your home and celebrate that.
